PREVENT Calculator: 10 and 30 Year Cardiovascular Risk
The AHA PREVENT equations (base model): 10 and 30 year risk of total cardiovascular disease, ASCVD, and heart failure, from the labs and vitals you already have.
What PREVENT is and how it differs from the old calculator
PREVENT replaced the 2013 pooled cohort equations as the AHA's risk model. The important differences for daily practice: it starts at age 30 instead of 40, it predicts total cardiovascular disease including heart failure rather than ASCVD alone, it builds kidney function in as a first-class variable, it accounts for statin and antihypertensive treatment, and it removed race as an input. Risk estimates run lower than the old calculator on the same patient, which is expected behavior, not an error.
This page implements the published base model for 10 and 30 year risk and reproduces the reference implementation's outputs exactly on validation cases. The full model adds urine albumin-to-creatinine ratio, HbA1c and a social deprivation index; when those matter, use the official AHA tool.
